TO THE EDITOR:

On April 4, Riponites will go to the polls and cast their  ballots for education. ... Here’s why I have decided to vote for Tony Evers for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

... in a time of wrecking-ball politics, he is honest, careful, and data-driven.

He has spent years up to his elbows in public education in Wisconsin, and from where I sit, his analysis of our challenges is spot on. To be sure, his proposals are wonky, rather detailed, and they can’t be summed up in catchy slogans. They don’t represent radical change, and they don’t promise the moon.

... Programs that chip away at known barriers to success (and Evers’ proposals address crying needs I witness every day) may not sound as sexy as the “throw the bums out!” rallying cries of some education reformers, but they are necessary.
