... Frank Buress is not your typical politician. In fact, I think he would recoil at that description of him.

     Why? Because Buress is — in his words — a “Democrat by Party; Independent by Nature.”
     ... I think it represents how many voters feel.

     They’re not bound to any political party. In the last Presidential election a lot of Republicans rejected the traditional Republican candidates and sided with Donald Trump.

     At the same time a lot of Democrats, progressives, and independents, rejected Hillary Clinton.

     In short, people said loud and clear that they’re not comfortable with candidates who represent politics as usual.

     Frank Buress is not politics as usual. ...
