TO THE EDITOR:

(Re: “GL City debates cost, need of school officer,” Oct. 11, 2018)  Green Lake and Princeton schools are in the process of hiring a school resource officer; ie, a police officer assigned to schools to protect students at a cost of approximately $90,000 per year. The officer will alternate time between schools.

I question how a part-time officer will protect kids from danger.

It seems likely that a school shooter will be aware of an officer’s schedule, since most attackers appear to have spent time preparing their attack. The attack will probably occur while the officer is 10 miles away protecting the other school. ...

One or more teachers having proficiency with firearms may agree to undertake safety training and be armed to provide immediate protection for kids.
