      LAST FALL, RIPON’S Aktion Club spent one of its lunch meetings scrapbooking.

       “Some members cut pictures, other members picked out clip-art, some glued, etc.,” said Kristy Sadlon, one of the advisors to the group. “The best part was remembering and talking about all the activities as we put the book together!”

       Scrapbooking may have been its own reward for members of the Aktion Club — but it wasn’t the only one.

      The book they put together that day? It’s now been honored not once but twice by Kiwanis International.

     “Ripon Aktion Club received first place at the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan district level,” Kristy said. “The scrapbook was then forwarded to the International level contest [which was held in Las Vegas], receiving honorable mention.”

      Not bad for a pile of memories!

     IN CASE YOU NEED A refresher yourself, the Aktion Club is one of Kiwanis’ sponsored programs aimed at individuals with disabilities.

     In Ripon, it meets regularly at Diverse Options, which serves such individuals.

     Just like any other club, Aktion Club holds service events throughout the community, serving Ripon in any number of ways, in addition to participating in the scrapbook contest.

     “The theme for the 2016-2017 contest was ‘Courage to Engage’ and members were to create a scrapbook showing the events, service and fund-raisers of our Aktion Club year (October 2016 through September 2017),”  said Helga Rikkers, another advisor to the group. Paging through their scrapbook Monday, club members recalled some of those efforts. ...
