     Things are on the rise at Ripon’s gathering place for local veterans.

     Literally, and figuratively.

     Soon, aging members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts won’t need to worry about navigating steep steps into the former church built in 1857.

     Instead, construction of a new lift is nearly complete, meaning even wheelchair-bound members can ride into the hall — both upstairs and down — in style.

     But that’s not the only good news coming from the site. Other projects are in the works, creating a rising amount of something else: optimism. ...
