You may have read in last week’s Ripon Commonwealth Press that two parties submitted bids to Fond du Lac County for 303-305 Watson St., the former headquarters for Boca Grande Capital LLC.

     The bids were due last week Tuesday at 11 a.m.

     Commonwealth Editor Ian Stepleton emailed county Treasurer Brenda Schneider at 1:28 p.m. to find out whether anyone had bid on the property.

     When he hadn’t heard from her by 3:30, Stepleton called Schneider, who explained that two bids had been made.

     One was for the minimum bid of $295,000, and the other for $295,001.

     Stepleton asked Schneider for the parties’ names.

     She declined to tell him, explaining that she wanted to withhold that information until members of the county’s Finance, Personnel and Economic Development Committee could review the bids the following day, Wednesday, at their 4 p.m. meeting in Fond du Lac.

     That prompted Stepleton at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday to send Schneider another email ...
