To the Editor:

Recently, our Republican state legislators gave lawyers a blank check to file a legal brief in Wisconsin’s fight over redistricting.

The taxpayers of Wisconsin have already spent more than $2 million to defend maps that were drawn in secret with no public input by this same Legislature in 2010.

A panel of federal court judges ruled that these same maps were unconstitutional and in November ordered the Legislature to redraw the maps.

The judges found that the way the Legislature drew up these maps in 2010 resulted in gerrymandering. This same panel of judges told the Legislature that new maps needed to be in place before the 2018 election.

A computer might be useful in redrawing these maps, however in the end it all comes down to the current lawmakers. They are capable of drawing fair and reasonable congressional and legislative maps. ...

The Republican legislature drew maps that favored them in our state and national elections.

It is time for all voters to contact Sen. Luther Olsen and Rep. Joan Ballweg to put aside party politics and work to ensure all voters have an equal say in our elections.
